Employee Retention Tax Credit – Amended Returns

By Michael Mazza, CPA, MST. Shareholder

Many businesses applied for and received refunds related to the Employee Retention Tax Credit (“ERTC") program in 2021.  The credit was available for parts of the 2020 and 2021 year.  In many cases amended 941 returns were filed in 2021 for the 2020 year as well as refund claims for the 2021 year.

If a business applied for the ERTC they are required to file an amended return for 2020 if wages were used in that year to apply for a credit.

As we embark on the 2021 filing season Detweiler Hershey would ask that you please let us know if you have applied for and received a refund related to the ERTC so that we can advise and prepare an amended return as necessary and make adjustments prior to filing the 2021 returns.

Please contact Detweiler Hershey or your tax preparer if you have any questions regarding the ERTC that has been applied for or if you would like additional information on the qualifications for the credit.
